Learning so many new things

July 24, 2009 - Leave a Response

Jack is doing so well. He is impressing me every day with new words. He has such a great vocabulary for a 1 year old. His physical therapist said that what he lacks in gross motor skills he makes up for and surpasses with his language and cognitive skills.

The other day we were playing in the computer room and he pointed to the screen and said “bu-fly”. The background of the desktop is a picture of a butterfly. I was so proud of him! I didn’t even know he knew what a butterfly was- I have mentioned it before but I didn’t know he got it. I guess always talking to him and reading to him is starting to really show.

I was getting him ready for bed last night and I walked over to get a book to read to him and he looked at me and said “Mama, Brown Bear” (it sounded more like “Mama, ba-bear”) becuase he wanted to read “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” I was so proud of him! And then when we finished the book he said “Mama, Wa-wa” (water). I was so impressed :)

One of his favorite games to play is “Noah’s Arc” Here are some pictures of him playing–

I tell him the name of each animal and what sound they make. We say “bye-bye” to each animal as we push it through the door and into the boat and when they are all in the boat we take of the top and dump them out and start over- he loves doing that so much.

0704091724

0704091725a

His favorite animals are the lion and the giraffe. I say “Jack, what sound does a lion make?” and he makes the funniest sound you have ever heard like an angry cat screeching/growling. He knows I say “Roar” but his lion sound is more authentic- LOL.

He tries to say giraffe but it comes out as “Ra-raf”… he is so cute. There is a toy bin of food on the arc for the animals so I brought an animal over to it and made a chewing sound and Jack took every animal (one at a time) and fed them the “food” while making the cutest chewing sound you have ever heard. He had the biggest smile on his face- I wish I got it on video.

At the end of playgroup each week we sit in a circle with the kids and sing songs.  Most of the kids sit on their Mom’s laps and the moms help the babies do the hand motions for “itsy-bitsy-spider” and “if your happy and you know it clap your hands”, etc. Jack doesn’t want my help at all anymore. He squirms off my lap and sits in the circle and does all the hand motions by himself :)

Earlier this week Jack and I took a walk after dinner and there was a big band having a dress rehersal on the town common. A small crowd had gathered to watch so we sat on the grass and had a great time listening to an awesome band! Jack was in his PJ’s already but I let him crawl around in the grass and the band handed out shakers to the kids so Jack had such a fun time playing along with the music! Here is a picture of him at the concert…

I love how a ray of sunshine is streaming across the picture and I love the look on Jack’s face!

I have pictures of the pink house (they painted the back of the house today) but Mom would kill me if I posted them… I’m sure she wants to show you guys in person herself. So for now I won’t post any pink house pictures but I will say that it looks AWESOME!!! Judy- if you are reading this you should come over soon and see the house! Grammy- less than two weeks until you are here- the house will be done by then!

One of the songs I regularly sing with Jack is “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. Almost every time I sing it Ialso do sign language. Before bed last night we read our usual bed time stories and then I sang songs to get him to sleep. When I started singing “twinkle twinkle” I had my arm under him so I wasn’t doing sign language- to my surprise he put his little hands up and signed “Twinkle” and “Star” at the correct part of the song. He has done twinkle before but never star- I didn’t even know he had picked up on that sign! I was so proud of him! When the song was done he looked at me and signed “More” “Twinkle” “Star”– that’s three signs in a row!!!!! He is really communicating in sign language now and not just one word at a time! I’m so proud of him! He’s my smart cookie!

We went to playgroup today and when it was time to sing “Twinkle Twinkle” he showed off his signs to everyone and they all clapped for him! He was so proud! Then we sang “If You’re Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands” and he was clapping and doing all the hand motions- he is the only kid in his group who does it on his own without Mommy’s help.

I’ll sing with him tomorrow and get it on camera. I’ll post the video here soon.

Maggie came with us to play group today and then we went to Mom’s school. Here are some pictures from our day…

When we got to the school Jack was pooped from play group so he took a nap in Nana’s room while Maggie and I helped Mom with school work.

When he woke up Maggie and Jack had a freeze pop snack (Jack just had a bite of mine- he loved it!)

Jack crawled around the whole school trying to catch Maggie- he had sooo much fun.

Yesterday Jack’s birthday present from Nana, Pa and Maggie arrived in the mail. During his birthday party they printed out a picture of his present (a drum set) and put the picture in his card. When we opened the card he started banging on the picture- he was so excited about the drums! Here are a few pictures of him when he got the real drums. He was having such a gerat time. He’s my little music man.

And here is a cute video of Anabelle and Jack from yesterday- Look at that boy go! I can’t believe how fast he can crawl now! He loves his cousin… he loves trying to catch her!

Jack LOVES the show “Dora”- he is obsessed with the backpack on the show. I hate letting him watch TV but this show makes him so happy so I let him watch it sometimes. He is talking more and more now- here is a movie of him watching backpack and talking!

June 21, 2009 - Leave a Response

Being the Mom of a baby who crawls is a lot different from being a Mom of a baby that doesn’t crawl. Life has been busy! So busy that I haven’t even had time to check my email much or update this site. Jack is all over the place- he loves to be on the floor crawling and pulling up on anything he can get his hands on. He is such a happy little guy. We have so much fun together.

His birthday party was awesome. I know people are waiting to see pictures so here they are…

Happy First Birthday, Jack!

June 10, 2009 - Leave a Response

I made this video for Jack. The pictures are from his first ultrasound to age 1. The songs are songs I sing to him every night before bed and I have been singing them to him since he was in my belly :)

I can’t believe my baby boy is one year old! Here is a copy of the letter I wrote to Jack. My plan is to write him a letter every year on his birthday.

Happy First Birthday, Jack!

You mean the world to me and I love you so much. I can’t believe how fast you are growing up! In a way it feels like you were just born the other day but I also feel like I can’t remember life before you were born. You are such a sweet baby. You are always happy and smiley. You love to give hugs and kisses (you just open your mouth and press it to my cheek- drool and all). When you drink your bottle you like to grab my shirt and rub it with your little hand. You light up my heart when you say “Mama”- it’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever heard. You are obsessed with music. We sing songs all the time and you LOVE to play the drum and shake the maracas and clap your hands. You always smile really big when you are clapping your hands to music- too cute! Your favorite book is “Goodnight Moon” and we read it every night. When we get to the page that says “goodnight mush” you point and laugh and talk to the mush and you look at me with the biggest smile EVERY TIME… you crack me up! You also really like “Brown Bear, Brown Bear”- you love the yellow duck. You are such a smart boy. You know a few signs. I love teaching you sign language. You sign “light” every time you see a light which is pretty much all the time and you like to say ” Li…” as you sign and point at the light. You will also sign “more” “milk” “book” and “diaper change”. You love being outside. We go for lots of walks to the park. You really enjoy the swing. We have made several trips to different zoo’s this year. It’s so much fun to watch you grow from month to month and see your interests and personality developing more and more. You have learned to shake your head no. If I’m feeding you I’ll sign more and offer you another bite and you certainly let me know when you have had enough- you just shake your head no. You like to feed yourself now, you don’t want Mommy to do it anymore. You absolutely love water. You love your baths and you love swimming at the Y. You kick your legs and flail your arms the entire time you are in the pool and you even get out of breath because you just don’t stop splashing no matter how long you are in the water. The entire time you are swimming you squeal and smile and laugh! You are very into bubbles. You love to point your finger and pop them. We sing songs about bubbles while I blow them and you say “pop, pop, pop” over and over again. You are the best person in the world and I just love you too much for words. The past year of my life has been incredible because of you. You make me smile every day and you fill my heart with so much love. I can’t believe that your infancy is over and you are becoming a toddler. I’ll always remember rocking my little newborn baby to sleep holding you close and singing to you as you look up at me with your big blue eyes. When you were first born you were so tiny… you had these little chicken legs and now you are a big boy who is almost walking! You are growing up so fast–I’m excited to watch you grow up and become a wonderful, smart, sweet, happy boy. My special book to read to you is called “Just In Case You Ever Wonder” and my favorite page says:

I’ll always love you

I’ll always hug you

I’ll always be on your side

And don’t you forget that

Our other special book says:

I’ll love you forever

I’ll love you for always

As long as I’m living my baby you’ll be

I love reading those words to you because I mean them with all my heart!

Love you forever,

Mommy

Today Grammy and Grampy are coming to visit. The kids are very excited. It’s really hot out today. We spent most of the morning in the back yard playing on the swings and playing wiffle ball. It was beautiful out!

I took Anabelle and Jack to the movies this week- we saw Disney’s Earth. NOT a good idea with an almost 1 year old. He loved the movie so much he was pointing and yelling at the screen the ENTIRE time and wouldn’t stop. He was so excited to see the animals on the big screen- he was soooo loud! Not in a bad way but it was still very loud so we left a little early before the movie was over. We still had a good time but the movie was a little long for us. On the way to the movie two deer crossed the road right in front of our car- Anabelle couldn’t believe it!

We spent Monday at home- Anabelle helped me make home made bread….
